I know how Martin likes the salars hooks, I thought I would do some for the present conditions.

Try a stoats tail on the silver salars with yellow hackle fibres for the tail, black body with silver rib, black squirrel for the wing, black hackle fibres for the throte and j/c cheeks

Love UK Salmon ties, especially done on double hooks. The one thing that has always caught my attention (the way you tie vs what's common here in the US) is the length of the wing you folks frequently use. Very unusual to see one of our river fishing flies with a tail much longer than the bend of the hook. With very large flies it's fairly typical to actually use a 'trailer hook' that will set back in the end of the wing/long feather bodies. The "Intruder" style fly is a good example of this: www.washingtonflyfishing.com/gallery/fly-tying/p10310-alaskan-king-salmon-slayer.html You can tie these Babies up using any colour comb that strikes your fancy, it's the size and action that get the fishes attention. But the (almost) 'given' is there will be a trailing 'stinger rigged' hook at the end of the feather tips. Reason for the above is 'Our Fish' (especially Steelhead) have a tendency to be 'short strikers' so the the longer 'wing' will result in a lot of missed fish (just a tug and ..... nothing).
