Hi guys
I've been looking online for a rod and reel over the past couple of days and noticed that the GAC has a 13" Shakespeare Oracle for £102. I've saw the same rod elsewhere for £70.
Also GAC have the Vision GT reel for £179 and I saw it elsewhere for £149.
Is everything overpriced here and should I avoid it?

I use GAC regularly, infact for nearly all my purchases, and found their staff very knowledgable and helpful. Their range and stock holding is first class and their prices very reasonable. I guess when you are one of the top tacle retailers in Europe you will have people who like you and then again some who dont. I hope we dont see this denigrating into a thread slagging off successful retailers guys.

Price wise, they have to be much the same as everywhere else. As regards service there must be more than one GAC! As someone who has to use mail order, I wont use them . Do a search of GAC on World Sea Fishing Forum if you want lots of reasons why!!!

I use the GAC all the time for myself and for clients, i find all the staff very helpful and very knowledgeable in all aspects of fly fishing and the tackle they sell. Also with next day delivery, i find this most helpful for my clients who turn up with the wrong gear.

The mail order service has improved since I last used it in January, contact emails and it's quicker so fair play.
It is expensive, but that premium allows them to carry most things in stock so if your in a rush or want one trip to get a shopping list full of kit, the chances are they will be the best suited.
I use it weekly and the guys are great, always helpfull. I can drive 30 miles round trip to gac and get everything I need, or treck into Lanark and pick up a few things cheaper but then have to order the rest online.
Horses for courses.

Hi Greenbanks, just noticed that my question finally got a reply. The thread was not intended to slag off GAC, I recently started fishing again after a long lay off and noticed that it was more expensive than elsewhere for certain items. However I have used it a fair bit since and think it's a very good store, I agree that the staff are knowledgeable and helpful and they have a great range of stock. You can pick up some stuff cheaper elsewhere but like Scanny says, horses for courses!
