After the state of my casting in March, i have had some assistance from Mr Ian Kirk (An excellent and patient instructor who saved me from shooting heads), and thankfully i have improved. Sticking to one rod and a line profile has helped no end. I never had any pictures of my casting since so did not know what profiles my loops where or generally how untidy my casts were. I cohered the good lady to take some pictures this evening, needless to say it was 8pm by the time we left so there isn't much light and a little noise in them, but i was pleasantly surprised with the result. ive not used the rod much for the past 8 weeks with my finals so im still a little rusty. Most of the issues in the picture of shame have been corrected and im now getting some distance to my casts. Up until now i was using a 58ft line, but after going for a 65 Jetstream it is much easier to cast the head almost out of the tip, with the result being consistent casts of 36-38 yards off the reel- i got a fair surprise measuring to the mark i made when i got home- a full 8 yards further than i was getting in April without the line, rocking and accentuated rotation. There's scope for more distance in the rod too, For anyone who fishes on Newtyle, the lunch time Ritchie School of Spey casting is usually just half an hour indulging in some tackle tartiness ;D, but on saturday it proved a little more useful and entertaining. Spending half an hour trying to throw a dog of a line line on a brute of a rod might just have done the trick, or was it because David was there this time. It seems that bludgeoning away helped me get a feel for casting the head outside the rod tip, and a good bit more distance Casting with 65' outside the tip Again with 65' Outside the Tip 60' Outside the tip Can anyone see any glaring errors, My anchor tends to drift a little too far to my right side to just over a rod length but i find it helps me change direction a little easier with a longer head. Also, im letting go a touch early by the looks of it

Cheers, its about time it improved, sticking to one rod might just have helped, not jumping from Guideline back and forth.
I caught a few tree trout in the branches, with the 12' i wasn't too displeased catching the fallen tree trunks on the far side either first time out with it.

The tree trout are the only things Biting just now. I had a few hours on another rod today and lost all rythm on it, so another morning getting back into it tomorrow. It's a casting weapon when it's all going well

Its not got any worse thankfully, a nicer line on tonight for using with tighter banks near by. The Good lady is tiring of getting eaten by midges and taking pictures now The cleg's haven't got her, just yet On both rods i was using, i cant underestimate how big an effect the line has on them, worth every penny

I was using the 9/10 single colour 65' Jetstream marked at 66' on the tip and the Proline on the colour change which is 56' on the tip. The ones of the Norway and 11/12 75' Jetstream didn't come out out so well as it was after 9pm but it flies out equally as well. They are superb, especially the Jetstream's, for longish lines they present very delicately, surprising when you feel how they pull out.

Yes I've used a few jetstreams although never the 65. How do you find the proline? I had heard it would work on 13,14,15,16fters but can't seeing it having enough weight for the longer heavier rated rods @ 50g

I tried the Proline prototype on the 15' Dtx and it is the nicest set up i have cast, its superb. On the 16, its a little softer so if you knew what you where doing then it would go out, that's beyond me as yet. I measured the colour change to about 56' so there's a bit of rear taper to play with.
I've not tried the proline on my 12' yet, but i did try the 9/10 65' on the 12' up to 15' and it goes very well. Weight wise im not sure the weight difference and it doesn't feel that much - there was only 15" difference of the line pulled in between the 12' and 13' on the 9/10 so it should go on the 12'.
