Gents, I am heartily sick of flogging a river all day with a fly and getting nowt (apart from 2 out the Dee in March) I am thinking about giving the spinner a try but confess that I have not really given it a good go....as yet I still intend to use the fly but, as they say, a change is as good as a rest! So, could someone in the know tell me which sort of lures to get - I'll probably go for Tobies, Devons and a Rapala or two - but in what sizes? Big or small, weighted or floating, multi- coloured or plain. I know the basics and the fundamental tactics but don't want to waste money on gimmicks.

Snapcaster,my own stinger c's are great baits as you can fish them as slow as you like as the water helps suspend them once you set it in motion, also work just aswell fished fast... stinger c's for me thou the floating flying c is a great catcher from the start to the end of the season,,,simpley fish it using a paternosted lead on a 3 way swivel the same as a Devon minnow set-up,,,you can fish it deep and slow as you like in the early spring, also deep and slow to fish that lay close to the bottom when the suns up and bright on the water, but if you change the lead for a wye lead then you can fish it at all depths,,,,they are the top bait on our river now.. Dowel floaters.. Balsa floaterers (my favourites) Also been trying some silicone filled floaters that are flexible(some silicone is bouyant).. Silicone floaters.. Simpley whip a treble on the wire and insert the mount up your body from the tail end, then tie off the tail end.. next take your silicone tube etc and insert the end of the mount into the nozzle and push the nozzle into the body and fill with silicone,,, remove the nozzle etc and slip down a 6-8mm plastic bead and push in into the top of the body, leave to set then you can build the flying c as normal off the bead inserted in the body,,,, A very light and flexible bait... a few mini silicone c's for summer grilse and seatrout... stump...

Some interesting lures there Stump I like your idea about filling the bodies with silicone.
