Well we had the opportunity to fish two of Henke's rods on the above beat and this was confirmed on Friday late afternoon. Late as it was we were not about to turn down the opportunity to fish this beautiful beat.
The day started off with Grey over head conditions with rain and were met by Martin the Ghillie (seems a popular name for Ghillies ;D) who advised that the water was rising and might go up more depending what was happening upriver with the tribs etc. The river was sitting at a good height at 3'- 4" all the same, so off we went to get the rods up.
We were allocated the upper beat first with the famous Roe pot pool to come in the after noon. I elected to fish off the bank at the Seat pool while Sean started off in New Fawn.
Looking down Seat pool, and one can see how dark over head was.
Later I went down to see how Sean was doing and he gave me the thumbs up to indicate he had a fish. Lucky person I though again!! it turned out to be a spanking new seatrout of 3lbs dripping with sealice. At least he had a pull!
We fished till lunch time without any of the four rods on our side touching anything else. After a rather shorter lunch than normal it was off down to the lower beat where Martin took me over to Inchmarlo side I think he realised my LH up on the right bank, was getting to me, where I swapped over with Sean half way through the session. A lovely pool that had some hairy wading at places, but the thought of getting a pull was never far from your mind. Especially when we saw fish showing, but agreed that they were probably bombing straight up river that that fine height. A look at some pictures of the Roe Pot pool.
Looking up Roe Pot.
Looking down its length
Sean putting out a lovely cast with the Rio SH set up.
Looking up Roe Pot towards the Inchmarlo Hut.
A lovely day out, pity the fish didn't want to play ball, but a lovely stretch on a lovely river and perhaps on another day we might have caught.
