Cheers Ken Yes this has to be the best competition in the world with casters from all corners of the World. This year included 40 odd casters from as far as Japan, Russia, Norway and Ireland. The competition is held at the famous golden gate casting club in San Francisco and involves wading waist deep whilst casting a 15ft fishing rod on 4 different spey casts (right & left spey cast and right and left snake rolls) of which you get three casts each with the best cast on each being consolidated to give your final score. During practice it was quite clear there were a number of strong casters, casting between 150ft (50yrds) and 180ft (60yrds). For me the qualifications went very well with three of my four casts in the high 50yard mark and the other in th low 50s. It was great that three of the top four caster were from the UK or ireland!! After perfect weather for the qualifier the final turned out to be almost monsoon conditions, with driving rain and squalling winds, however once again the Scots and irish from the carron team managed to pull off the 1,2,3, a feat that seemed almost impossible at the beginning of the weekend. 1st – Gordon Armstrong 2nd - Gerard Downey 3rd – Ruairi Costello The trio from across the pond On a personal note, my own highlight for the weekend, other than the competition result, was carrying out the longest cast ever with a 15ft rod whilst performing a demonstration with Andrew Toft. On the final cast of the demo a cast of 188 ft was thrown, giving 62.6yards!! Stretching out to get that extra yard Roll on Spey O Rama 2011

Well done on your new record Gordon and 62.6 yards whilst waist deep is an awesome piece of skill. What was the tackle set up you used to execute this cast? Think the images look like you had a great time with whats clearly a close team of friends.
