After a brief encounter today with the rod bent it exploded in 2 places How did that happen? Was it the Monteith rod?

Impressive break is that it Martin 2 the Monty 0 now Strange place for it to fail at, it shouldn't have. Probably the whippings thread being there along with a knock or two in its years and you get a failure due to the compression on the blank - the whipping thread doesn't allow the part under it to flex in the same way as the part uncovered, a difference in global modulus and a stress raiser has been present there from a knock or manufacturing relic. Ive tried so hard to break a rod like that. Quite impressive. Ill need to get up for some lessons soon.

I can give you a steel reinforcing rod at 16ft if you want? just whip some eyes onto it and off you go. never break and cheap as chips ;D

Havent used the other one It's had pike to 2 oz under 30lbs. Give it a go. Far nicer rod to play fish on than the whisker.
