Went to the tackle shop today to check out the Hardy Marksman 14 ft T (traditional). Looked a very nice rod, light, good finish etc. Very nice reel seat then saw that sticker "Made in Korea" and at £579 put me off a bit. Shop owner then peeled it off after I said something about it. It does not put me off as such but left a nagging in my head that it probably cost pennies out there. I know lots of products are made abroad now due to the cheapness of labour and materials and they can manufacture thousands with ease. Sewinfly...................

It's all down to labour costs, mind you the Koreans make cars, ships and all sorts the rods will be made to Hardys specs, and I'm sure there's a hell of a mark up in the tackle trade. Still a good rod it's the new swift really I don't know why they stopped making the swift it was one of the best rods they made, all down to marketing.

There is a diffrence in qaulity, look at the thread holding the eyes on you see the legs, there will most likley be lumps in varnish in place's bumps/gaps in reel seat and cork.
The rod bag will cheap material not the soft cloth, the stitching will look like a drunk person has done it,not the almost perfect stitching it used to be.
Look at the fine details you will see most or all the above and in some cases a lot more.
Companys like hardy know all this but dont care, the proffit margin in diong it this way outways any problems the drop in qaulity may bring.
They should be wearing masks!!
It was that part of the world China mainley that were churning out a fake copy of almost anything a while ago and company's were loosing millions, poeple were buying the fake stuff.
The companys were never going to stop it,so they went to them instead and got the counterfitters to work for them more or less making the product at much less and just above the qaulity level of the fake!!
I saw a £300 Northface jacket in a shop and the stitching was shocking it looked FAKE ,(MADE IN CHINA) when i asked the manager what he thought of the level of qaulity he said he couldent coment!! everyone is on the band wagon now.
I will never buy anything made from there.

With companies like Samsung and Hyundai, the Korean quality standards are probably better than the UK nowadays! I bought a 14' Marksman T secondhand and the build quality is excellent, not as good as my Loop rod but perfectly acceptable. haha..................just noticed our new avatars look Korean, but honest I'm not!

Both my marksman 10ft spinning rod and 15ft demon had all of the above faults, the hardy badge on the rod tube was like something from a cartoon! the stitching was that bad, and it was more like a 50p piece rather than a circle, dident affect there performance but why should i pay even more money for a lesser product? but i have had trouble with my zane reel aswell that did affect performance 3 times.
When hardy was made in England there were staff doing the work by hand that had been doing it for years, they were expert at what they done and highly skilled, the finish and attntion to detail was very high that has GONE now.
And unless hardy price there gear to match the product i will keep walking past them.
