Just recently started fly fishing and my knowledge is very minimal. I have the basics (e.g rod, reel, assortment of small trout flies, sinking line, floating line, backing) I've managed to grasp casting, how to attach braided loops, changing line etc in the space of 2 days. Today was my first day on the fly and what a day it was, 6 small trout caught.
Now i'm just wondering what the best flies are to use at this time of year, and which type of line (floating or sinking) is best to use.
Any reply is welcome.. Thanks, Ricky.

ricky,
I am assuming you are fishing for trout with a trout fly rod (single handed rod) and are fishing for Brown Trout on river and loch
Stick with the Floating line and use small flies during the day and larger ones when it starts to get dark if fishing in the evenings - often the best time from June onwards.
In late August/ early September, start using larger flies again with a bit of red in them as trout will often look for that bit of colour.
If you are fishing for Rainbows at a Trout Fishery place, follow the guidance of the owner or other people and you should be ok
Keep on asking, learning and fishing
