It's been a long slog but today I managed to catch my first springer, I was lucky to have been invited to fish Dounie on the River Carron by Keith (Kylesider). With the recent snow melting fast on the tops the Carron had risen a fair bit on Thursday but the forecast for Friday was not too bad (or so it said). In the morning we were to be fishing the lower beat with a changeover at 1300. In the morning we mainly fished the Gorge pool as the water was too high for most of the other lower pools. The Gorge Pool After a spot of lunch and a brew we headed to the upper beat, the water appeared to be dropping very slowly and there was a fair bit of drizzle and that fine rain that soaks you through . We started off at Captains Pool and Keith let me fish through the pool first, after 5 or 6 casts the line stopped. Not really knowing the pool very well and using a fast sinker with a 2" Willie Gunn I assumed that I had just snagged the bottom, then the I felt the line draw off and knew it was a fish, the scrap lasted for what felt like 10 minutes but was probably a bit shorter and then she was in the net. The fish had perhaps been in a week/week and a half but was in great shape and swam off quite happy. Now the pressures off . Keith lost a fish in the Hiding pool and was going to have a crack at the Marge as I was leaving so this may be continued.... Captains Pool Paul
