This fly, I’ve called ‘Craig’s Nightmare’ has been adapted to a salmon shrimp pattern from the ‘Craig’s Nighttime’ (see recipe below), a New Zealand trout fly of created in 1930 by a Mr. Craig, his first name was either Charles or Eric. How do you thing it would fair a shrimp pattern? Craig's Nightmare Hook Size 12 to 4- singles or doubles Tag: Fine silver oval tinsel Tail: 2 red (dyed) rooster feathers - furled Body: Black seals fur, ribbed with silver tinsel. Wing: 3 matched mallard flank feathers, tied in on top and extending just past the hook bend. Topping: One jungle eye laid on top of the wing. Hackle: Soft black hen hackle. Below is the original Craig's Night-time recipe - circa 1930 Hook: Mustad 3666 Size 2 - 10. Tail: Short tuft of red wool. Body: Black wool or chenille, ribbed with silver tinsel. Wing: 3 matched pukeko breast feathers or suitable substitute, tied in on top and extending just past the hook bend. Topping: One jungle eye laid on top of the wing. Hackle: Soft black hen hackle. Note: Tied with a pale blue body for moon lit nights.

Thanks for your comments underghillie.
Mr. Craig dressed his original ‘Craig’s Nighttime’ pattern as a freshwater crayfish imitation to be fished at night. Later he made the fly in two versions, one with a black chenille body for use on dark nights, and one with a light blue chenille body to use on moonlit nights.
Apart from what I've googled, I know very little about what makes a good shrimp patterns for salmon. I see plenty of big trout but unfortunately, the only salmon I get to see is in a can, so I have no way of testing and experementing with salmon flies.
Are there particular colours that shrimp feeding salmon prefer?
