Right then this is our first tying competition on the new forum. Sue from www.foxy-tails.co.uk/ Has very kindly agreed to provide a fabulous prize each month for this competition, from the foxy-tails range. The rules are very simple. each entrant is to tie 1 fly incorporating a minimum of 1 material from the foxy-tails range. The fly can be tied on your choice of single, double , treble , tube , waddington etc etc. A photograph is to be posted onto this thread (a maximum of 3 pictures) to best show off your fly. A full dressing is also to be given, with each entry. The competition will be open for entrants until the last day of December, when a poll will be run until the end of the month. The fly with the most votes will win, and receive a great prize from foxy-tails. Now I know we have some VERY talented tyers on this forum, so we don't just want to see a dozen temple dogs each month Let's see some new and innovative patterns. Best of luck to all the entrants. Dave.

I will point out that the winner of the competition will receive a fabulous prize from the foxy tails range.

Nice one sinktip. I've done a shrimp fly as well but a slightly different one. It's probably not a good idea to enter a salty seatrout fly in a contest decided by a poll, on a forum with mostly salmon fishermen, but here it goes anyway Maybe a little introduction is in order. In Scandinavia we do a lot of seatrout fishing in the sea. There are so many patterns that all work well that at times it seems like it hardly matters what you use. Shrimp is one of the main food sources for the seatrout and one of the reasons they come so close to the shore (where we can catch them). Personally I like to both tie and fish various shrimp patterns. I fish these with a lot of confidence which IMO is more important then having the 'right' fly on the end of your leader. Here is my latest one I was slightly confused with some other competition so have experimented a bit with Raccoon Dog here ;D Not sure what to call this fly (or if it even deserves a name for that matter) but how about a simple Raccoon Saltwater Shrimphook: #6 Kamagatsu SL45, weighted with a little copper or tungsten wire eyes: burnt 40/00 nylon, ends painted black and dipped in epoxy feelers: grey boar bristles 'tail': tan raccoon dog under fur mixed with a strands of gold flash on each side body: mixed underfur, you could just use the raccoon dog but this is something I had already cut from arctic fox legs: brown rubber legs, tie in a knot half way to get them to angle, black would be suited as well if you want to accent them some more shell: raccoon dog under fur mixed with some translucent flash and finished with raccoon dog guard hairs. Tie the shell in forward (opposite from how I mentioned the materials) and fold it back. Fix the shell with copper wire. one from the side and hopefully one from the trouts perspective Not a salmon fly per se but I hope you like it The raccoon dog is a nice material for this fly as the under fur is amazingly soft. Together with the rubber legs this should guarantee for a lot of movement even when the fly is hanging still in the water. The guard hairs are also nice to use and I really like the look of the black tips in this fly. Sue, you see where I would like the pink raccoon dog for?

Dave, didn't it say flies to be submitted before Dec 14th? Here I have been hurrying to get something put together ... ;D Actually I was going to suggest we'd give people some more time, although I wouldn't mind getting in the 'top 2' it would be nice if people enter some more ties and we'll have some more patterns to choose from. Surely you'll enter a fly as well?
