I went out for my first outing to the Annan I know it is too early but decided to go for a short walk with the rod. I was fishing at Dryfholm beat with my brother he started of with a Kelt of 9 lb then he had two others about the same size both shook of by my self! He caught the fish on a red frances conehead. I then changed to a golden frances and started to put line out and I hooked the bottom, it then started to move fish on after a few mins a double figure kelt was duly released. I then cast again with a slightly longer line and another fish took it tuned out to be a 6 - 7 lb rawner. My brother got another kelt of about 15 lb. We moved through the pool till the corner by the hut and the flow had almost gone. I started to hand line then had a gentle take and 10 mins later I landed a bagot of aprox 20lb. It was released we saw a few fish but that was the end of our sport.

I was fed up getting slagged off for winding in the wrong way ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Any pics of the pools on the beat? I will get some later in the week, I was using a very unusual method that I have deployed a few times, mostly in Norway. I was shattered so I decided to lean gainst my staff and let the flies work on the dangle, my real woke me up a few seconds later!

Over the past few weeks I have been having a go, I had a 19lb fish about two weeks ago coloured cock fish and on Thursday I had a 7lb hen. There seems to be a hell of a lot of fish about but they seem to reluctant to take, I would be interested to find out if others are having the same problems.

The average size of fish has been good this year with my brother on 9.5 lb 5 fish and I am on 12.5lb 3 fish my mate who fishes Applegarth has an average of 9lb with 6 fish. I had just about everything in my box on (not at once) still very reluctant to take. We tried diferent depths and speeds still no joy, the only thing that worked was the Monkey on the surface at the Dryfe mouth. With a bit of luck it will fish after the water settles.

Id like to put my report in for the dates of 20th 21st of October. Myself and my Dad fished the royal four towns beat on the 20th, saw at least 14 salmon top. Could not temp them tried the following rapala cd7 firetiger, black and silver cd9 brown trout j 11 black and silver j 13 firetiger and black and silver, flying c black and red and a couple of tobies. There were at least another 8 worm fishing they to blanked but the beat definitely had salmon running. The next day decided to fish the annandale estate using the same tactics fished the trough pool behind the services saw one salmon and i caught 4 brwon trout on a cd7 rainbow trout. Decided to fish the ministers pool in the afternoon, conditions were perfect although we still didnt see or catch any salmon. Still enjoyed the fishing makes me more determined to catch one next time if any one has any advice please send me a pm
