Whats the opinion/thoughts on braided loops?
On the end of the line with a little play/swivel rather than a welded loop for attaching tips.
Would it be better for turn over? worse, or no diffrent.
PF.

Definately worse for tunover when attaching tips. You will get a dead spot in the line and it will drop in the air rather than turn over smoothly.
It's ok on short tips of up to a foot or 2 for wee rivers and single handers or short double handers, but when casting a distance, stick with welded loops, or needle knot some stiff nyon to the end of your fly line, and usae this to attach your tip

I think Braided Loops are Ok if you are fishing Heavy Sunk Line with a short leader and a Heavy Fly.
However, it a different game entirely if you are using a floating line and smaller lighter flies.
Welded Loop or home made loop using the Line's Core is better or a short Butt Piece of Heavy Duty Mono needle knotted or similar with a Perfection Loop on it are my choices these days for non-Sunk Line work

The only time ill leave a welded loop on is if it's in the main section of the line in which case the hinging of the line quickly destroys a braided loop by forcing the line though the side of the sleeve.
Relying on the surface tension of the polymer- which by it's manufacture, will crack- never appealed to me. The cores typically rated to 25lb tensile, the welded loops an afterthought and independent of the core.
Otherwise, I cut them off and use a dense braided loop. Braided loops attached properly are good, ones lathered in Aquasure are not (non moveable, non flexible mass, exactly the same as a welded loop).
A 75' or 85' floater would make a lovely "plop" if it had a welded loop on the end to ruin the benefit of the fine tip for presentation.

Do you use braided loops to attach your sink tips to your main line??
I use a braided loop on the end of my sink tips,to attach the leader but prefer a welded loop to attach the tip(if using one) to the main line.

I got a guideline PT unlooped and was wandering what the outcome would be if a BRD loop was used for conecting sink tips. But i can see in my minds eye how you explain it happining. Do you cut off the welded loop on a sink tip and put on a BRD loop for the leader?

If the tip comes with 2 welded loops then I remove 1 and add a braided loop, at the tapered end.
Most tips have a wlded loop at 1 end and a braided loop at the other, so it works well with a welded loop on your mainline. IMO

I use braided loopes for attaching my tips on all my spey lines and shooting heads, never had any problems with turn over. Men't to say i use tips all the time

I Persnoly dow not like braided loops as they give poor turn over have a bulkey feal if you use a short leader which is not very nice on short trout rods as they get snaged on the top eye.

After getting a number of offers and not connecting i found that the seatrout were going for the braided leader. Cut it off and went back to the old way, problem fixed. Bob

Always use braided loops with no problems with turnover using tips
