Haven't fished Carlogie for a long time but will be this year. Summertime is new to me as I've only ever fished Carlogie Feb/March and that was a long time ago, with a f**k-off big Blair Spoon from Brodees in Aboyne.
Any pointers for summer on the fly on this beat will be gratefully accepted.

hi ade, I dont know it well having fished it only once, but I recall it fishes best in a low-med water.
Depends of course on the usual factors, but the full floater small silver stoats, crathies, hairy marys and such like will be main line of attack- especially if its bright. A few long tail shrmps for overcast conditions and streamy water. And as head ghillie sean stanton is a master of fishing the francis- be sure to have a go with that.
I would err on the side of fishing small and trying something with more impact if there is no reaction.

Thanks macd
I knew I'd hit gold on this forum, to get advice off the likes of yourself. I'll pick Sean and Ian's heeds in Feb but just wanted some other opinions as I'm getting all excited already.
I think I've met you

Hi Ade
Im fishing Carlogie at the end of Feb. I sent an e-mail to Jean at the Ballogie estate and she kindly sent me a beat map and a detailed description of the pools and what heights are best for each of them. Might be worth getting in contact with her.
Hope this is of some help

Hi Craig
Contacted Jean a bit back, she was passing on my request for info to Sean and Ian, but I believe Sean's been a bit under the weather. I'm sure they'll come up with the goods but just wanted some other opinions.
Hope you like the aerial map of Carlogie I've made, hopefully will be up in the Calm Pool Hut come Feb

HI ADE,YOU DONT SAY WHEN YOU ARE GOING TO CARLOGIE,BUT I FISH OPPOSITE BANK,AT DESS IN LATE JUNE,AND WE HAD 67 SALMON AND SEA TROUT FOR OUR TWO WEEKS THERE. IF IT IS LOW WATER,CONCENTRATE YOUR EFFORTS EARLY MORN AND LATE EVENING I.E 5-9 AND 8-11. WE USE 12FT 8WT RODS,WITH 10FT TAPERED CAST TO 12 LB B/S,AND THEN ATTACH 3-5FT OF 11.6LB SEAGUAR FLOUROCARBON.ON THE BUSINESS END I WILL USE SIZE 16-20 DOUBLE WILSON HOOKS OR 20/18 BIG MOUTH DOUBLES,ONTO THESE ARE TIED SILVER STOATS.EDITORS.POSH TOSH`S ETC.ALL THESE FLIES WILL TAKE SEA TROUT ALSO. YOU MAY ALSO WANT TO FISH THROUGH THE NITE FOR SEA TROUT,AND FOR THIS WE USE 10.6FT SINGLE HANDED RODS,7WT LINES AND WE MAY ADD 3FT OF FAST SINK TIP,OR USE 8FT OF 15.4LB SEAGUAR,AND ON THE END WEE USE 3/4 TO 1" ALLU TUBES AND DRESSED SPARSLY SILV STOAT ,SILV TOSH ETC,THE TAKES CAN BE AWESOME. AGAIN IF YOUR TYING FLIES TO TAKE WITH YOU,KEEP THEM SPARSLY TIED AND SMALL,THE DEE WHEN ITS RUNNING CLEAR ,ITS THE SAME COLOUR AS COMES OUT YOUR TAP AT HOME!!!
