Gerry, most of them are in the 2-4lb bracket,,the staler cock fish was just about a double and the bigger hen fish was around 6lb,,,the Fowey fish are superb fighters and as the rivers fairly small its very exilerating playing the fish and the Fowey is a very enchating place to fish,i've seen some huge fish in the Fowey maybe knocking 15lb+and lost a few big fish in early May..i was lucky enough to land a Double figured fish from the Fowey on one of my annual trips ..tried for nearly an hour to revive the fish but to no avail :-[it is in the rod room at Wainsford on the Fowey in a lovely glass case.. Fowey Double.. stump...

Outstanding pictures! I envy you. I have only fished the Towy once at Llandeilo. I would love to have another go on it. It was years ago when the Game Fair was at Port Talbot that I got a night on it. The temperature was 30c that year at the fair. When I got the offer of a night on the Towy I thought brilliant Sea Trout and a nice cool night. Fat chance! We where stripped to the waist at midnight sweat rolling down our backs. The river was full of fish. The sound of them splashing in the dark was like half bricks where being thrown in every few minutes. I only managed one fish of 3lbs. Compared to the fish that where jumping that was a tiddler. A return match would be good. You obviously know your stuff. The Towy doesn't give up it's good Sewin easily.

Ev4,,,im lucky to have fished the towy for 10 years plus now,and i've stuck to just a couple of beats and have been able to notice changes each season, also i've made some great friends who have fished the river for years and years and are full of valuable information,,,i made a change in lines a few seasons ago from the tradional full floater to a intermediate ghost tip that has paid dividends for me,,,(only use a full floater with a jambo these days)im one for a biggish fly to invoke a take and am lucky to have a friend who ties some of the best seatrout flies and patterns(confidence is everything ).... cracking fish takers.... i've also come to like my late night sunk line fishing with big tubes etc, taking better quality fish in the early hours when the air temp has dropped and things seem to have gone very quite... second half tubes... stump...

Super looking flies Stump. We tend to use less colourful patterns up here. Any colour you care to choose..... as long as it is black! Border Esk, Annan. Even the lower Tweed Sea trout seem to be happy to take a black fly. The pattern is not critical. Black hair wing on a silver body. Singles to tubes. The secret as you say is in the presentation. I too find an intermediat or slow sink line the main line to use depending on flow. It always seems logical to me to put the fly where the fish has to expend the least energy to take the fly. A reluctant fish is more likely to have a go at a fly invading its territory than one sailing by way over its head. That's the theory anyway.... ;D Ev4,,,im lucky to have fished the towy for 10 years plus now,and i've stuck to just a couple of beats and have been able to notice changes each season, also i've made some great friends who have fished the river for years and years and are full of valuable information,,,i made a change in lines a few seasons ago from the tradional full floater to a intermediate ghost tip that has paid dividends for me,,,(only use a full floater with a jambo these days)im one for a biggish fly to invoke a take and am lucky to have a friend who ties some of the best seatrout flies and patterns(confidence is everything ).... cracking fish takers.... i've also come to like my late night sunk line fishing with big tubes etc, taking better quality fish in the early hours when the air temp has dropped and things seem to have gone very quite... second half tubes... stump...
