With only the river Wye within reasonable distance (and tragically it is but a shadow of its former self) I have to get my jolly's fishing Chew and Blagdon waters (no hardship I can assure you). The pictures below were taken last year before we were blighted with algae bloom and excessive weed growth. The lake is about 1200 acres and surrounded by the Mendip Hills. Wt 5 floater with claret Bob's bits and Shipmans size 12 or 14. The take! The end result a fit 31/2lb overwintered rainbow. All starts again on the 15th March which will get me in the mood for my trip to Pert on the N Esk in April. Tenet

Ahh brings back many memories Tenet. I used to stay in a little village called Shipham, nr Chedder Gorge for a year and used to fish Blagdon, Chew and one of the Barrows at Bristol. Some very good quality fish in them and had some excellent sport on Blagdon in particular. In fact I caught the biggest brown trout at 5.25lbs at that time, just in front of the cracking lodge way back in the early seventies. It was mentioned in the Anglers Mail and that was my 2 mins of "fame". Is it still fishing well after the bloom kill a few years ago? KF

Hi Kingfisher - Yes Blagdon is doing ok. I am posting a link to Bristol Waters website and you can look at a pdf file for their annual magazine "The Buzzer". www.bristol-water.co.uk/fishing/showNews.asp?newsID=562One thing that Chew and Blagdon provide is "proper" fish not the tail less wonders that many a stew pond produce. As you can testify some of the fish could be confused with freshly run sea trout especially the overwintered browns. Cheers Tenet
