Fenton, these are interesting looking flies
Would like to know the precise dressing to give them a try myself some time.
What conditions would you try them in?

Hi, Found it really hard to decide on a variant that I like and will, hopefully, catch fish Here is the dressing for a Silver Stoat’s Tail Variant called Bill’s Stoat I found in Stan Headley’s excellent book – “The Trout and Salmon Flies of Scotland” Hook – Size 10 or 12 LW Double Tying Thread: Anything you are comfortable with – I used Uni 6/0 Grey but Black or Red 8/0 is probably better Tail – I used Red-dyed Strung Hackles – the original uses Dyed Red Squirrel which I did not have Rib – Fine Silver Oval or wire Body – Flat Silver – double layer Throat – Blue-dyed Squirrel Wing – Fine Black Hair, e.g. Squirrel or similar Head – Red Varnish or Red Thread varnished – 3 coats I think it’s quite a neat wee fly, a bit like the good old Butcher. It is a fly I would be happy to use anytime from July onwards when fresh fish are expected to be in the river. tweedbunnet

They look very good Alistair and I like the bright red tail in particular. Should be a very attractive fly for the seatrout and back end Salmon. Make me up a couple size 8 doubles and I will square you up when I next see you. kf
