Any suggestions on good Lures for Rainbows anyone as I have zero experience in this type of fishing?
I would like to get at least one session in before starting the season for salmon - just so i remember what to do if a fish takes the fly/lure
I believe an Orange Fritz, Cat's Whiskers and Jack Frosts are all good, having caught previously on them (but in April)
The Viva and other Black Lures have never been successful for me.
Any tips at all would be appreciated

Really anything Black should be in vogue at the moment TB.
Ace of Spades, Christmas Tree, Viva really ought to do the trick, providing of course you can get a fishery open at the moment ;D

Thanks
Am moving on to tying some Black lures but for some reason, it has never been a lucky colour for me
I have just heard from a pal that the Apps Bloodworm is also a good try when Trout are a bit hungry in Winter
I am a major, major fan of the Flashback Damselnymph fished on its own and like fishing this anytime from April.
Will get some Hothead Beads and give these a try out - I assume a Hot Lime colour like Glo Brite floss is the one to try
Am also tying some Dancers tonight!

Had a decent run at tying last night. Amazing how quick I seem to the Trout Lures compared to Salmon flies but I suppose there is less materials in them Here is what I ended up with: Will try to fish some of these before the end of the month tweedbunnet

for me it simply has to be a black and lime dancer its simply deadly or fall back onto a damsel nymph or cats whisker once it warms up the the welsh red devil the diawl bach is awsome

I would have a few gold head Pheasant tails, and a few small Dawson's olives or damsel Nymphs, get down deep and strip pretty fast. But working at a trout fishery for 20 odd years has taught me i know nothing, so better not take my advice. ;D Gordon.
