Yesterday saw the first salmon off the Lomond system! According to their web site there has not been many anglers out fishing. Perhaps if more anglers were out there would be more fish caught. The fish had been in the system for a couple of weeks and should eat well! With such a good spring run it is good to see an excess of stock to enable limited harvesting! I only hope that the fish was from the smolts stocked last year! Well done to the angler who made the capture. The fish looks good it has an almost sea trout look to it but it definately has its adipose fine intact. www.lochlomondangling.com/reports/K MacC

It's definitely not a salmon, sea trout maybe, or more likely a ferox. Is the chairman new to salmon fishing?
Almost impossible to get a grilse that size at this time of year so it couldn't be from the stocked smolts.

The fish does not look its best having been caught at around 9am that morning and sitting out in the sun all day. Photos can be deceiving though our chairman can confirm having seen the fish and taken dna sample etc that the fish had been in the system for several weeks
How the hell can he have any DNA results already. Looks a good fish but that head definitely doesnt look like a salmon. Id still be happy with it though.

It's nice to see creative prose is not dead in Dumbarton Don't think the Chairperson lives in Dumbarton. Or perhaps he does. Maybe. Anyone else noticed the dearth of Leven and Lomond reports in T&S over the last few months ? Allegedly.

Its a feckin troot I'll tell ye why there is nae Salmon in the system cause they keep killing them the feckin idiots, also the same idiots come across to Loch Tay and kill our Salmon now they have none left to kill on their own system If any Tay board member reads this post, get yerself up to Loch Tay and stop whats going on or it will end up just Loch Lomond Tony

It can't be a troot as further doon the page it says, (take particular note of the 3rd line) ;D ;D 1. No bait fishing until 1st May in any given year
2. When bait fishing no hooks smaller than a size eight will be allowed.
Remember also that no sea trout are to be killed until 1st May in any given year.

It could be a trout, big trout off the loch are fairly common this early in the season. Hard to tell from the photo but if it is a salmon well done!
Regardless, the time to judge will be when the seasons finished. However I notice that all the lost fish are described as springers, smacks of desperation in my opinion. Lost fish are part and parcel of fishing, anglers i.e potential customers will judge the system on the number of salmon landed irrespective of what spin is put on it.
I had a spey casting lesson a couple of weeks back on that same small stretch of river that shows a solitary fly fisherman wading in low water, I saw 4 anglers not including myself or my instructor in a two hour period. Not exactly deserted.
Regardless of angling pressure I will make my own judgements on the number of fish my mates catch, guys that are good anglers and will be out on the loch every Saturday as well as on the Leven and Endrick during the week when water conditions are favourable, guys that know the water and who will catch fish if they're there. If they do well and overall numbers are low then great I personally will be happy to fish but if they hammer it and struggle then the writing really will be on the wall until drastic improvements are made.
To insinuate that there is a lack of landed salmon due to a lack of anglers is a bit rich, maybe we would be better off looking inwards and asking why these anglers are voting with their feet?
One fish is a start, but its deid noo and thats not gonna help...

Rubberwellie, It's not hard to tell, it is a guaranteed non-salmon... An innocent mistake or a more subtle attempt to get members thinking that the first fish of the season has actually been caught. Hard to tell from the photo but if it is a salmon well done!No way is it a Salmon and that's the funny thing about this one, it's actually very very easy to tell from the photo unlike many other online fish pics that spring up debates like this. The funniest is the fact that it was corroborated with DNA evidence?? Sampled, tested and results all turned around after 5pm on a Bank Holiday friday!!! ;D ;D ;D
