I am new to fishing, and have a standard style pole, though I think I will get a fly fishing pole soon. The thing that keeps happening that is really upsetting to me is more often than none when I hook a small trout, the hook goes through their eye... again I am using regular hooks, not the small fly fishing ones. I am guessing that if I were to use the small types used in fly fishing this would not happen? And I also have filed off the barbs from my hooks I don't want to harm the fish I would like to release again. Any suggestions?
