I welcome you to the Bemersyde Weekly Newsletter.
We are aiming to keep everyone up-to-date with what’s going on at Bemersyde with pictures of fish caught, wise words from Ian Farr and a sprinkling of Bemersyde Banter.
Any pictures from previous visits are most welcome and I will hopefully mange to slot them into the newsletter somewhere.

Monday
Water down to 6 inches on the board, clear beautiful day today, warm and sunny fish seen in all pools, one landed Woodside, rod not sure if it was fresh, photo was not much help so doesn’t go in the book. L
Tuesday
Lot more fish starting to settle in pools, Boat and Woodside but hard to catch, need a flood now water 4 inch.
Wednesday
Cold and windy today, only seen 3 fish today, very quiet in the pools.
Thursday
Fish Fish and more Fish!!!! low water but David Proudfoot managed to catch 2 spring fish, one Woodside, 3rd point, one Boatpool far side out of boat, 11 and 12 pounds nice fresh fish one just lost its lice, copper toby, also one baggot out boat, his first ever salmon on his first proper days salmon fishing think he will be back!! rain forecast for tonight lets hope we have lots
Friday
Only one rod today, no fish seen today think David caught them all yesterday!! J
Saturday
Water up 14 inch today, after rain overnight, no colour, it drop 4 inches by 5 pm, cold water put them of today hope it will bring some more fish up river for next week.
ps good to see Scotland do so well in Italy, could do with a wooden spoon in kitchen.

Many thanks to Ian on what was a truly amazing days fishing on Thursday, much appreciated his knowledge and expertise on Spey Casting, it takes a bit of getting used to for us Trout guys!! The Craic was excellent and much appreciated by Ian B & myself. Sure Sunderland will be the top team in the North East J
Ian passed on pictures to me of Salmon caught by Andy Britton & Ray Borras which are attached with the best of mine.

Monday
Where did the water go??? back down to 3 inch this morning, some fish about Woodside between the Points, One in Boat Pool below black rock no fish today.
Tuesday
Good fishing day, cloud and some sunshine, a fish out of Woodside, far side 4th point caught
by Alistair Waddle on a cascade tube inch, nice fish about 7 lbs, he also lost another fish soon afterwards, remember boys stones tend not to pull back J
Wednesday
Water 2 inches and falling, not alot about today but lost a fish in the Boat Pool below tank, far side, some choice words from Shirley Bell J nice warm spring day though.
Thursday
Sun out today, fish moving Woodside, seen 4 below points some fish in Boat Pool, one stream and dish, water clear and low.
Friday
No fish today sun was out and very bright.
Saturday
Seen fish today but they did not want to play L water down to a inch!!
We need rain now, unless its going to be a long week, forecast is dry for some time!!

Hot hot hot and getting hotter, could fish in shade till ten thirty then that big red thing came into play, to bright after lunch!!
Tuesday
Even hotter today, seen a few fish though.
Wednesday
Still hot today we need some rain soon running out of water now.
Thursday
No change in conditions.
Friday
No change in conditions.
Saturday
No change in conditions, please pray for rain L
Lets hope the conditions improve this week and there’s rain, any pictures of Snowmen built at Bemersyde will go out with the newsletter next Monday J

Monday
Some change in the weather this week brrrrr, only one rod today, still low water, no fish caught. L
Tuesday
My god it was windy and cold today with snow, almost impossible to fish river, water up 2 inch by lunchtime.
Wednesday
Another cold day with more wind, water up to 8 inch, temp down to to 41 today.
Thursday
Hard frost today but sun is up and has got its hat on J Now boys remember to look every where in your bag for your reel before you have to walk back up hill to find out it was in your bag all the time. Mr Pease it was funny mind J
Friday
Water at 8 inch and some colour but no fish, hoped to see some fish moving on this water but not yet!!
Saturday
Water up in night 1 ft 4 on gauge with some more colour, a Kelt in the Cromwell was a surprise, not had 1 of them for 3 weeks but you can still catch them even in early may.
Let’s hope we get this rain, river needs a good clean out, riverbed getting slippy under foot, now need fish to start moving up the river.

Monday
A fish at last another for Chris Bryce, out of Woodside, far side, forth point, intermediate tip no8, cascade, nice fish 12 to 13 lbs, Picture of fish attached with Dogs, another cold windy day, not much showing today need some more water now!!
Tuesday
Rain during the night and all morning, snow on the high ground today, river rose a foot by lunch, lots of colour, very brown no fishing in afternoon up to 3 foot by 4 pm.
Wednesday
River up to 3 foot and very coloured.
Thursday
River still in flood, the Leader putting lots of colour in today. L
Friday
1 ft 6, Water looking better, fished in the afternoon but no luck. L
Saturday
Perfect water conditions today, 1 ft 5 clear, bad north wind today, full house of rods but no fish, did not even see one today.
Hope to have some fish on the line this week, but weather looking unsettled for rest of week.

Well done to the two Edinburgh Clubs making it to the Scottish Cup Final, the last time Hearts won it they lit up the Castle, the last time Hibs won it they built it J Keep Smiling.
Ian has asked me if you could all check to see if you have a set of boat keys, currently three sets missing, please contact asap if you have.

Monday
Good looking water today after last weeks rain, full house of rods all looking forward to fishing but alas no fish seen, not one, disappointing day but hope it will be better tomorrow. J
Tuesday
10 inch of water, but rain over night, it started to rise lunchtime, 2 pulls woodside but no fish in morning but success in afternoon 2 fish woodside first and second point, both fish caught by Simon, like buses never see one then 2 in twenty casts both fish about 7 lbs, intermediate line and small cascade tube nice fresh fish J water came up to 1 ft 4, in by finish time went really cold in afternoon!!
Wednesday
A days salmon fishing and a fine and wild picnic was given today for 2 rods to the MS Society re there Charity Dinner in Melrose Rugby Club, donated by Shirley bell and Charles Jeffrey, the day was bought by Rodger Herbert for £200 his guest was Hugh Thomson. A very good day was had by them and there wives. Lunch was spectacular and the wine did flow thanks to Shirley for a great party today. J
Water up to 1 ft 6 overnight, a little colour held steady all day, sunny but with a cold north east wind, no fish today but not for the lack of trying.
Thursday
Water still colored today not much showing, cold east wind. L
Friday
Water looking ok today, 3 rods fishing, 1 ft on tank will be better tomorrow if no more rain!!
Saturday
Over night rain up the Leader, water only up 4 inch at 9 am, lots of fish on the fin today, showing in boatpool beside boats, one follow on the rap in woodside but water colored, as day went on up to 2 ft by 4 pm, boys went home, no fish caught just what we did not want today was a rise just made fish run past us.

Monday
Water looking good after the flood on Sat, success in the morning down Woodside, George Elliott (Picture Attached) with a 5-6lbs fish, very fresh on a gbwg tube one inch, from farside, also a fish lost at the Copper Beech in morning, a few fish showing today Chris Bryce stayed on till dark and managed to lose another fish down Woodside tut tut tut
Tuesday
Water 1 ft 3 and steady, Shirley Bell managed to slip on the path just before the hut only her pride hurt and a dirty bum. Rodger Herbert had a nice 9lbs fish out Woodside by the boat his first as a new syndicate rod, well dun Rodger J lots of showers today think we will get a rise in morning.
Wednesday
Flood today 2 foot and brown, mostly leader and gala water, Charles Jeffery took a tumble same place as Shirley, just watch as you come to hut when its wet please.
Thursday
River in flood 2 ft 4, lots of colour most out of the leader, more showers today L
Friday
River in flood 2 ft 10 and coloured, no fishing today!!
Saturday
Looking a lot better today 1 ft 10 some colour, conditions better in afternoon, one fish lost in Woodside, first point, thought we might catch a couple of fish today, was disappointed not to land one, cold east wind did not help the cause today.
More rain forecast over weekend we could do with 5 foot to clean river out and some warmer weather.

Monday
Full house of rods today, water looking good 1 f 6 and steady, fish showing in all the pools, Charles Bremner had a hold of something second cast at Woodside, his dog was no worse for it J
Tuesday
A topper of a fish today, biggest spring fish for years between 22 - 25 lbs with sea lice what a fish caught by Jim Rennie
Wednesday
Great water today but only one fish lost by Charles Bremner, second thing he has had a hold of this week, seen fresh fish in most of the pools today but hard to catch, also seen a diseased fish in the dish that’s not what we want to see at this time of year L
Thursday
What’s going on this week another fish lost in Woodside come on boys hold on to them!!
Friday
Started with a fish first point Woodside and it stayed on hooray J but lost another one in the afternoon same place boo hoo L
Saturday
Mark Bird caught a nice 8lbs fish Boatpool bottom end, (Craddle) (Pic Attached)
Been a good enough week with three fish caught, unfortunately five have been lost, please feel free to hold on to them folks J

Looking good now, 9 inch and clear, another cold day, fish seem to have moved on, not much showing today L
Tuesday
Full house today managed to lose a fish, tail of boatpool first thing, let’s hope this is not going to continue getting fed up not holding on to these fish, weather starting to warm up, lunch outside today makes a change J
Wednesday
At last a fish that stayed on, out of the Copper Beech nice fresh fish 12 lbs congratulations to Shirley Bell her first fish for the season she was casting like a demon today ha ha, good to see her showing the boys how to hook and hold on to them (photos attached) rain forecast for tonight looks like we had the only fish above floors today when the going is tough call Shirley Bell J

Monday
River 2 ft 4 with colour only spinning this morning more coloured by 11:30 we finished at lunch tine, digger here today putting hard core down from end of path to front of hut will stop people falling over, its looking good should finish it tomorrow J
Tuesday
River still 2 ft 4 but clear today was looking good. Lost a fish in the boatpool out boat below black stone but Bob Anderson did take advice and did not lift in to quick on the second fish in the cradle nice hen fish 14 lbs just lost its lice on a black yellow 2 inch tube inter line did not see much today photos included.
Wednesday
1 ft 10 a perfect water today in every way but only one fish caught today in Woodside, Jock Shure a older river fish but ten pounds on the fly well done Ian Pollit photo to come
Thursday
Another good day for fishing water wise, but a cold wind from the east, some rain during the day,1 fish from Woodside, 6 lbs fresh fish, 4th point cascade tube, not seeing many fish today will be better tomorrow, more rain to come tonight J
Friday
Water up to 2 ft today, some colour, what a cold wet day it feels like November but we managed to catch a 7lbs fish out the dish, been in a fortnight, Willie Gunn tube 2 inch caught by Ray Borras
Saturday
brrrrrr cold wet windy day water, up to 2 ft 6 with some colour no fish just one good pull in front of hut

1 ft 6 perfect water today and one fish landed Woodside 15lbs by George Elliott on the flying c, another one lost on the fly, cold in morning but real hot in the afternoon typical Scotland
Tuesday
What a change in the weather, hot hot hot today, not that it made the fish stay on, lost one in morning and pulled another, that was it for the day, did not see much today on the move, water temp over 50 today, lets hope it stays up J
Wednesday
Hot Hot Hot today water still looking good water is warming up and another fish today this time out of Sangstars, 8 lbs an older river fish caught by Roger Wheater on the flying ( c ) yellow.
Thursday
Seen a few fish today, Sun tan looking good now J Gregor Murray caught a 7lbs fish out of Woodside, on a no 10 cascade J
Friday
More hot weather no fish today.
Saturday
Only fished until lunchtime, to bright and hot!!

A fish out the far side of the Boatpool on a Yellow Ally, 10lbs caught by Ralph Hymer J
Thursday
Only one rod on today, cold & windy with lots of rain, water 9 inches and clear, lost a fish in the stream only on for a minute, fished the Sunray in Woodside had a fish come have a look but not get a hold off!!
Friday
River up to 1 f 4, some colour, Sea Trout showing today and Salmon on the move was disappointed not to catch something today, can always blame the fishermen ha ha
Saturday
River down to 7 inches today, one fish in the morning, Boatpool on the Sunray caught by Ray Borras nice fresh fish 6lbs, another in pool after lunch on the Flying C, 12 lbs older fish caught by Andrew Wallace, his first ever Salmon a very happy man J Robin Valentine did not come until after lunch managed to lose 2 L the first to fish farside of Boatpool before he landed a fresh 17lbs fish on a gold bodied Willie Gunn tube then had a good pull in the cradle all an all a good day down the river

Water level 4 inch and clear, lots of fish showing in the Boatpool, the first fish came out the Cromwell, 10lbs nice fresh fish caught by Ralf this is the first fish out the pool this year another fish in morning out the boatpool in the cradle second cast on the Flying C first fish of the beat for Nigel Sayers, afternoon and another fish for Nigel same place on Yellow Ally no 10, he also lost a fish in Woodside bad Nigel J all in all a very good day down the river lets hope it keeps up J
Tuesday
A lot quieter today one fish lost below the dish, little bugger played for 5 mins then fell off, Ian Coghill has never landed a fish in the dish he managed to land a fish in boatpool far side on the Flying C no one else touched a fish all day, rain to come over night!!
Wednesday
Wet and warm, river grey in morning with the rain up to 1f 3 by end of play and turning brown, one 5lbs Sea Trout, first of season from Woodside Ally Shrimp caught by Ian Coghill.
Thursday
River in flood,1 f 5in and brown, no fishing today.
Friday
1f 10 and coloured no fishing.
Saturday
5 f 6in and very brown, no fishing L
