Did put a post on about the Wye the other day, so here is an update. The river has experienced a great start to the season, maybe not in the Scottish or Tyne league but for a river many years ago that used to produce great springers in the early part of the season maybe things are looking up a bit. Over 100 springers caught and with the river at summer level or below its quite amazing. A lot of these are caught at the bottom stretches and hopefully if rain comes they will spread themselves through out the system. The average size being 17.9 Ib's. 104 springers (4 over 30lb & 21 over 20lb Will be on the river Wednesday so fingers crossed www.wyesalmon.com/Strange the Usk next door has had a poor start to the season with a friend of mine catching what was believed the first springer off the Usk at 9Ib's a couple of weeks back . Ken and myself had a chance of fishing the Wye yesterday so we set off early in the morning and were at the river before 7:00.A lot of springers have been caught recently on the lower stretches, so we felt confident. With a very cold Northerly wind coming down the river with rain and sleet at times it was blxxdy cold to say the least. With sinktips set up on the d/h we made our way to the river and saw fish moving straight away. We fished hard all day with out a touch even though we covered fish. One of the problems was the amount of canoes that came and this certainly put the fish down in the pools. A great day was had fishing new water even if we blanked ! Ken fishing down through the Courtfield Ken at the end of Wyebanks Beat. Rain and sleet not great for fishing and cold to boot aswell ! Sewinfly..............

Nice report. I've heard not too many fish showing but obviously an encouraging number being caught. Fingers crossed it continues. A decent rise of water would be nice as the tides start to build...
