Whats the more experienced fly fishers view on this???
Does a small dark flie defiantly outfish a bigger garish fly in certain conditions??
IE low warm water.
Or do others think that the bigger garish flie will do the same job in the same conditions??

In My opinion, it doesn't have to be low, as long as the water is warm enough, then I will fish with as small a fly as I can.
Not always a dark fly either. It depends on the light conditions and type of water I am fishing over, as well as the time of the year.
I find from august onwards, a small fly in red/black or red/yellow fished square and fairly fast will do the damage.
But on the flipside, in warm water, the fish will chase a dirty great sunray accross a pool, so I suppose so long as your fly triggers a reaction from the fish, then your onto a winner.
Dave.

Hello Dave Do you think the smaller fly will provoke a fish into taking? and that the same fish would ignore a larger fly in warmer water?

I think it depends on the speed of the water you are fishing over. In slower water I think the fish will take a small fly with more confidence.... where a larger fly might get their interest, it would probably have them turn away if they have the time to inspect it.
I have a friend who gets a LOT of fish over the course of a season. His idea of a large spring fly is a size 6 double.(in most cases) and from summer onwards you will very rarely see him with anything larger than a size 14 on the point and a 16 on the dropper. he consistantly catches when others fail... yes he is a good angler, but he has confidence in small flies and they certainly work for him.
oh, and the size 14 on the point is an ally's 99% of the time.

Am gettin oot ma depth readin this, can i get it on DVD ;D There isny ain! checked already one word being the most important there Dave confidence!! if ye have it in what ever your fishing you will catch fish. Why some fishers will say only a small fly will do today, yet two fish were taken the same day on 11cm raps, dosent make sense to me? But then again maybe i am missing something and if found out,it will??

Depth, speed and size of flee are all important factors, but one should always take the water temperature, find out depth and speed of flow before selecting what set up one is going to use.

Don't forget the sun, clouds wind, rain, dropping, rising or settled water all affect fly choice

That does make sense to me Do you change the size of your fly as you fish through the diffrent waters of a pool?
