I had the good fortune to be invited to Dinnet a month or so back. It was a good couple of days during which I landed 5 fish.
The river was up on Thursday and there was a good push throughout the beat. I was allocated Pol Slachd and the Haugh in the morning. I fished through without and offer and then on into Lower Slachd. I got a take towards the tail. There are two boils in the bottom third of the pool and the fish took between them just as Euan the ghillie predicted. It was around 7lb.
I fished through the Haugh without incident and then had a nother run through Pol Slachd, again without incident.
In the afternoon I was over on the Deecastle side and had the Haugh and Pol Ba. Starting in the Haugh I had another take in the fast water in the neck. Another round 7lb
Both fish came to a s11 Park Shrimp, fished off a 5' slow poly
I fished through Pol Ba without a touch, which was disapointing and then had to leave before five to get back to Aberdeen to take Cal to the Extreme Stunt show...
On saturday the river had dropped by around 10 inches according to Colin.
I began the day on Dinnet in Bruaich. I fished it through without an offer- Euan thought it was our best bet, but zip.
We moved to the pool immediately below- Trochie (?) which is a fast run with a narrow neck with smooth water just beyond the edge of the stream- a very Highland style pool. I fished a s13 Park Shrimp and got a move from a coloured fish. I decided to try a small Sunray- a 1/2 plastic tube with a 2" wing and got a take first cast. It turned out to be a clean fish of around 12lb.
After that we fished through Top Bobby without a touch and onto Lower. I changed down to a s11 silver stoat and go a take right in the tail of the pool. It turned to be a resident of around 11lb. This was Dinnet/Deecastle's 250th fish of the season.
After lunch I was back on Deecastle and I fished the Bobbys, Bruaich and Ministers without a touch.
After 5 I stayed on Deecastle and had the Haugh and Pol Ba. The Haugh was very much lower than Thursday and had lost much of its allure beyond the top section. I fished on through the evening and at around 10pm I had their first grilse of the season from Pol Ba, below the pine tree on the Dinnet side, which is towards the tail. It was in mint condition and around 5lb. It took the small sunray. Unfortunately, it escaped as I fumbled to take a pic.
A fun packed 2 days on a wonderful piece of water.
