Tony.. Just out of interest how many Board members have to be 'for' an experiment like this in order for it to be carried?? and how many of the beats/ riparean owners are represented on the board?? Dave, i have no idea how many Board members have to vote 'for' on any of their agendas. As far as i can see there are to many of the Boards members that sit on the board rather than serve, the one's who sit on the board do so so they can sit at their cocktail partys and brag about being on the board, whilst the others on the board seem to enjoy making our river a laughing stock amongst the other river boards of Scotland. I know of one board member who said at a meeting that if he stayed on 1 more year he would have been on the board for 20 years, this same board member as far i can find out has done feck all for the river. By the way stop asking me these sort of questions because im sure its only a matter of time before i get into bother from the board

Don't know who told you that bollocks about the Tweed biologist, as no one looks after fish more than him. Hi Malcolm, it wasnt bollocks, it was on television and quite a few people complained at the time about his rough handling of fish on the programme. It was on Country Tracks and unfortunately the episode is no longer available to view on I Player but I can assure you I saw it with my own eyes and wasnt terribly impressed. Have a wee look at this thread on the other channel. www.salmonfishingforum.com/forums/showthread.php?28021-Country-Tracks-This-Morning&highlight=tweed+biologist

Not trying to get you into bother Tony ;D ;D
I was only asking because, as far as I was aware, any angling club/ owner/beat etc has the right to ask for reprisentation on the fishery board that governs them.
ie it could be as much as 1 person from each beat on the river making up the board..
could be wrong but I'm sure this is the case.
Dave.

Hi Malcolm,
Without trying to start a riot i will also agree with keirstream, i seen said program at the time and thought the fish could of been handled better.
Tight lines,
Tony

Dave. I think you could make at least 5, 5 a side football teams with board members as there are so many, maybe better not let them start 5 a side footie cause they would just change the rules to suit them selfs

Dave. Dave, that is indeed the case as per following extract; Elected representatives of those owners provide the core of the membership of a Board. However, since 1986, the boards are required also to include representatives of salmon anglers and salmon netsmen in the district. The Government made a further revision to the constitution of the Boards in 1999 to allow for even wider representation on the boards by bodies like SEPA and SNH or others, such as local angling clubs and associations. That is an extract from an interesting piece which seems to allow pretty much everyone and their grannies on to the Board providing they are a stakeholder or have a vested interest in the river or salmon angling matters; www.asfb.org.uk/members/about_the_boards.aspSo Tony, your 5 x 5 a side adage may not be far wrong. Surely not everybody on the board is just there for the fancy cocktail parties?? There are a number of proprietors involved who must be getting a little concerned if all you say can be verified. The trouble with a lot of organisations is that they can be quite easy to get on to but nobody forces you to attend or contribute and it is very difficult to be removed so I could imagine it wouldnt be too difficult to see out 20years without contributing anything positive. They also tend to be very political and many are full of people who simply want the best for their beat or section of the river to the detriment of the wider and greater good of the river and if they are the most active decisions go their way. Anecdotal evidence suggests that these types of organisations often regularly have meetings where a quorum of members is not achieved.

Hi Lads I didn't see film and i player only have a casting clip, I will mention this to Ronald and see what he says next time I see him, I have been to the netting station when tagging has been going on and all looked ok have to say the fish were under Anastasia when being tagged and sampled. As for the Tay board get some Ghillies onto it Tweed board has big cross section on it from ghillies to trout anglers borders council members and so on. I'm sure Tay should be the same. Pissed down here all day but dry in west I hear so should fish ok tomorrow, guid news is I found my boat that vandals had shoved into river when flood was on 4 miles downstream in one piece.

No offence intended to Steve's indepth if sometimes slightly long winded analysis. As for my nuggets of wisdom, I'm just a mere tyro this being only my second full season and only caught a handful of fish including none this season. And since we're on first name terms what's yours Mr Herefishy?
