Aye that first fish is a beauty, a real fat lump of a fish. It's clearly been feeding well.

No collie i'm afraid I think it was a wee black and orange number but to be honest I was more interested in the fish as we don't get many biggies on the Kyle. That's not to say they're not there just that they are tricky to lure ;D Paul

Yet another Cracker of a fish has been landed on the Kyle. On Friday evening at approx 1700hrs Mr Alan Donaldson (creator of the kylie/Kyle shrimp) landed this magnificent specimen at the Honeypot on a 1" Kylie. This fish was netted by club chairman Mr Keith Williams. Mr Ian Sutherland also landed a Grilse of 4.5 lbs earlier on in the tide. This Kyle season although slow to start (June is historically a difficult month for us) seems to finally be off and running. Day tickets are available from Bonar post office and although we can't really compete with the numbers caught on some of the "big" rivers we can certainly give them a run for their money in terms of quality. The recent downpours up till now seem to have evaded Kyle, that is until last night ! The river was up about 3ft when I finished work this afternoon. Despite this though and as is the norm at the Scap and above is that the water rarely colours when the river rises. I had a chuck with a Collie Dog of about 6" in length and had a good pull the first run through but after that nothing. However there were loads of fish showing with a good few just a foot off the bank and a fair few of them looked to be in their high teens at the very least (the Oykel should have another good year by the looks of it ). Valleyboy, thursdays looking good.

On sunday night we had a wee bit of rain which, coupled with high tides for this week has seen the Grilse (and some very big salmon) arrive and not before time too. On Monday I lost two good fish and landed a sea trout of about 2-2.5lbs. Tuesday I had one wee sea trout around the 1lb mark. Mark Fraser landed a spanking fresh Grilse of about 6lb Marks fish: This morning Andy Clarke landed a 15lb fish which gave a very good account of itself and fought like a demon, although it looked like it had been in a wee while. And finally after landing a 1lb sea trout and losing two good fish this morning I broke my 2011 duck with this Grilse of 4lb. At last I can now enjoy the rest of the season. No lice on it i'm afraid but it looked like they were just off it. Huge thanks to Brian Poe for the loan of his 16' 1" Sage Graphite IV as without it I would have caught nowt . Paul

Yesterday on the Kyle you could easily have thought it was spring. We had persistent cold rain coupled with upstream winds which was quite unpleasant and resulted in a thorough soaking, luckily Mark Fraser had a bottle of Balblair 89 in his fishing bag so before long the cold mysteriously faded away. Today the water was quite high (almost to the bank) and with a good flow to it. On my first run down I hooked a fish but it got off as I got out on to the bank to try to land it. A few casts later and I was in again at almost the same spot. This time I managed to land a lovely Sea Trout of about 2.5lbs. Despite it being a fairly pleasant afternoon weatherwise (despite the upstream winds) and as I was about to head off due to being unable to feel my feet Mr John Holmes had a fish take the fly, the fish seemed a good scrapper but John eventually managed to land it (John only uses a trout rod) This is the happy captor: Despite the lengthy battle the fish (est 5-6lbs) swam off almost instantly, seemingly none the worse for his ordeal.
