Well the wait is almost over. The Kyle opens for business tomorrow with the tide being about right at 4am. I just hope I hear my alarm Paul

I just hope I hear my alarm Paul Good luck Paul, funnily enough I never have trouble getting up for a "fishing alarm"...."work alarm" is a different story. What are the chances of a fish in June? Only ever fished it in July when the Grilse were piling in on every tide, some good sport for sure.

In all honesty i'd say fairly slim as we have had a fair bit of water recently which has benefitted the "posh" rivers more. It won't stop me trying though ;D I've decided to just stay up (what a rogue eh) as my brothers on his way up the road as we speak so will head out after a dram or two when he arrives. Paul

As far as I know there were no fish caught this week. Given that we have had a fair bit of water (quite unusual for May) up to the beginning of the Kyle season most of the fish seem to have passed through although there have been a good few fish spotted on each tide this week they seem to be running fairly hard. With water levels dropping nicely and a wee dry spell forecast hopefully it should hold them in the Kyle for a bit longer and soon there may even be a fish or two to report. In the meantime here is the sunset from Friday evening Paul

So far the fish have managed to evade capture here on the Kyle. Conditions have not really been on our side as it has been rather sunny so far and we have had no shortage of water either. In addition to this it has been unusally cold for this time of year and we even had a touch of ground frost on Friday morning . I had a few casts yesterday at the Gangway above Bonar Bridge and did get a few knocks as the fly was swinging round but feel that they may have been either Sea Trout or Brownies. In saying this it is still early days for us yet and I am confident that the fishing on the Kyle will pick up in good time. In the meantime here's a picture of my favourite spot the Scap. Paul

Yesterday we had what can only be described as "torrential" rain. The Kyle had risen, in my opinion to a higher level than it had done all winter here is a pic looking up towards the mouth of the Shin past the clump of trees in the right hand side of the pic: And here is the same (although taken from the roof as oppose to the window) scene this evening: In addition here is also a pic looking towards the rail bridge at Invershin: The trees on the island in the bottom right of the pic were all that was visible yesterday. Now all we need is a nice dry spell before the Grilse arrive  Paul

Oh well, as far as I am aware nobody has landed a first salmon yet on the Kyle. There have been a few encounters but they seem to have acquired genes from Houdini himself. On a brighter note there have been a fair few good Sea Trout encountered and I believe Graham Lonsdale has been particularly successful in his boat (I can happily report he hasn't been stranded recently either).
The Grilse can't be too far away and if the levels stay as they are then we could be in for some fun, after all you have to indulge in a bit of optimism in this game.

I can't wait for the wee buggers to get here, I heard of one off the Carron (sutherland) a couple of weeks back but the rivers are now very low indeed. I have a day on Cornhill tomorrow with Allan Donaldson and he told me tonight that it is very low indeed at 3" on the gauge, the lowest he has seen it in a while. At least if it is too low then I still have the afternoon tide on the Kyle to fall back on. The worry at the moment seems to be that the rivers have a lot of fish in them as it is and if it doesn't rain much before the Grilse appear in numbers it may not be too good Paul

With bright sunshine for most of the past week and slow moving low water conditions have been tough to say the least this week. However I am reliably informed by our roving reporter Douglas "scoop" Macleay that Mr Ian Sutherland had the first (reported) fish from the Kyle this season on friday night from the Honeypot of 7lbs, well done that man and let's hope this continues for next week. Almost forgot, John Holmes had a lovely Sea Trout of about 2-3 lbs which had a very fresh gash on it's side, not quite sure what did it but could probably have been a Heron or maybe a prop. Here it is: \ Paul

Upon my arrival at the Scap this morning I was greeted by the sight of Mr Brian Poe (Ardross special) with his rod bent into a fish, this was the result: Estimated at around 24lbs this fish was a sight to behold and was ably netted by Mr Robin Gardiner who then went on to land this beauty which was dripping in lice: Both anglers had also enjoyed success the previous day at the same spot which, considering the conditions i.e. howling upstream gales and bright sunshine was a good effort indeed. Still no fish landed for me yet despite losing a good one at about 2330 last night and a smashing fish of about 10lbs on Friday. I did have a couple of casts today but thanks to the strong winds (which curiously enough seemed to increase whenever I was about to cast) I lost the tattie pretty quickly. At the moment there are a lot of fish about and some real big looking ones too. Paul
