Perthshirefisher,
SNH are responsible for the official introduction, but the Tayside beavers are either escapees or have been released illegally.
However, SNH have no legal right to enter private property and deal with situation like a water bailiff might have. I suspect they are fed up hearing about beavers by now.
Goosander,
To control them at higher numbers.?....ultimately shoot them and eat them like the Americans do, under licence.

Polluted rivers are not natural I think you will find rivers do get polluted naturally although most pollution is due to mankind. Plenty of other creatures that need our help before beavers. Bob Just out of curiosity what creatures?

What does beaver taste like, I've forgotten? Ade They taste good. Quite a dry meat and can be salty if memory serves.

Careful placement of these beasts should not cause too much difficulty e.g. above the Hermitage or the falls of Ness on the Machany. Problem is it seems they are prone to moving on.

Areas above these obstructions are stocked annually with hatchery stocks Blow up the dams in may and let the smolts migrate.

Smolts would come out on a flood over any beaver dams anyway......it is getting up past them to start with that MIGHT be the problem.........but, yes, seems they can travel several miles in no time at all. If we had them, we would have them everywhere, and would be necessary to be able to do something in situations where they were a problem.
Could you give me some background on your pic Martin in a pm?
Regards,
VC

Intresting! i wonder how long the same old instances of a few will be slaverd again and again?
To the point of avoiding the details of the actual problem.
Mostly by the usual weekend wildlife/country experts.
