One day people will realise that Loch Leven is NOT a commerical put and take fishery. I really get sick of seeing every report about Leven with 3-4-5-6lb fish clubbed over the head. Leven took long enough to recover and that won't last going by the amount and size of fish getting chapped.

One thing UG is not is a fishmonger.

Nice trout Tony, was there much of a rise? The boats look like they've been changed since I was there last.

Leven took long enough to recover and that won't last going by the amount and size of fish getting chapped. I don't see why i should justify myself to you as i don't know who you are! But as you have had a go at me i will I killed 6 fish over the 2 days, 4 of which were hooked deep and bleeding badly and would not have survived so did not want to put them back as they are very good eating. I am led to believe the remarkable recovery on Leven is down to 3 wet Summers and 2 very cold Winters. The wet Summers allow for high Juvenile survival rates in the burns, and the cold Winters with the Loch freezing over for a couple of months allow for less mortality from Cormorants. I again am told that it would only need 1 drought year to knock the density's of Trout back from the numbers that are in the Loch at the moment. So as to the Loch not being able to with stand the amount of fish getting chapped as you put it, it will have no bearing on what happens to the recovery of the Loch. By the way i have not seen or heard of the big numbers of Trout being killed, there are how ever big numbers being caught but most are being returned. PS you missed out 1,2 and seven pounders Tony

Nae fish rising, all the fish i had were on fast sink lines fished as fast i could pull them, the fish are not that deep down but seem to want the flees being fished fast. The boat you see in the second days fishing is one of the new Coulin 16 footers the same as are used on Rutland, i was surprised as to how well they handeld the Loch in a big wind, they are very comfortable to sit and fish all day in, also less bits to snag yer line on

Last week in May on the Loch was always my favourite time. Good to hear you have done so well UG. The brownies used to like a big wave and fast retrieve just under the surface until the Rainbows came along.
I'm hoping to pay a visit in the next couple of weeks once my daughter finishes exams and the evening sessions warm up. Its on my doorstep so should really make an effort! Last year they were picking the big browns off on Drys at the end of May, something that was unheard of in the years of low viz water.
Which drifts were you fishing?

A word that seems to cause confusion among many. I am led to believe the remarkable recovery on Leven is down to 3 wet Summers and 2 very cold Winters. Its revovery has been going on a lot longer than that. By the way i have not seen or heard of the big numbers of Trout being killed, there are how ever big numbers being caught but most are being returned. Tony Heres an example from last season theres many pictures similar to this kicking about the internet. Im not getting at you for taking a couple of fish. Its the way many people treat Leven like i already said - like a put and take commercial trout fishery which its not.

Best drifts for me this week have been Back of the Castle drifting towards North Deeps and any where around the point of St Serfs and also drifting into the Horse Shoe, the wind has been south to south west all week. Most of the boats have been fishing in the north all week because the wind has been so strong. Get yerself out in the next couple of weeks as soon as that wind softens a bit Tight lines, Tony
