Looking for as much information as possible on the first 5 miles of this river from the sea up river. Interested in the seatrout and salmon fishing and the areas as where to fish.Have heard that it is a back end river with seatrout from June onwards and then later for grilse/salmon. Was wondering is there a spring run of fish. Cheers Spencer

Arrived at the Coquet on the Thursday afternoon and with the temp 25 c we decided to have a bit of a recce to look at the river with the river very low and no rain for 3 weeks the river was in need of a good spate. Saw a few small seatrout schoolies jumping in the day Friday morning we started fishing early before the sun got up into the high twenties again ! Fished a 10 ft 8wt Enigma mK111,sewincaster clear sink tip with a 10 Ib leader and tied on a small size 12 double shrimp pattern which I tied up for the trip. After a couple of casts the line tightened up and after a 10-15 minute fight landed this hen salmon close to 17Ib fish was returned. The pool where the fish took. Looking forward to August. sewinfly...................

Managed to get to the Coquet Jim. When we arrived late in the afternoon there were salmon and seatrout showing but with this spate river very low we new it would be hard going. Managed to catch this hen 9 pounder on a 10 ft 8 wt rod to a floating line and a home tied shrimp pattern. Sewinfly...................
