Re - It's back to f=ma, we want the force to be roughly constant, so increasing the mass means you need less acceleration. The only think you need to watch it overloading the tip of shooting taper rods.[/quote]
I agree with you and, although it doesn't feel right (in a fishing sense) putting it in mathematical terms, the cast that is made is dependent on the input from the mass (the line) and the acceleration (Speed of Stroke, then the Stop)
Acceleration is a variable that depends entirely on the angler- hence why similar set ups feel different to different anglers.
Maybe that is why former Champions like Charles McLaren liked DT5 equivalent Silk lines with his 12ft rod as he could get the force from his excellent technique in accelerating then stopping the rod to load it to maximum effect

Suddenly feel I need to apply Pythagoras Theorem and give careful consideration to the angle of the dangle co-inciding with the phases of the moon which in turn affects lunar and hence tidal movements. Feck it. Back to the spinning rod. Kierstream You have to allow for the effects of Continental Drift also! tb Incontinental drift? Is that when you stagger to the pub toilets wi yer pants wet?

Very good. Maybe the answer to incontinental drift is to "Pamper" yourself.
