One rod got a licer at lunch on Monday and two in the boat pool at 5am on Tuesday.
I fishied from 5am today, there were plenty fish holding and sneaking up, but they wouldn't look at anything.
There was a fish sitting at the bridge, I covered it with frankie for 15 minutes, it was on front of it, on top of it. He only got annoyed when it touched it. Even roll casting a snag out right on top of it wouldn't get it to twitch, eventually he got fed up and ran.
Same in the boat pool, two lies were holding and no matter what size fly we t through it at every depth, never drew a glance.
I noticed a few diseased fish running, and a 13lber was half dead coming down the boat pool, got it out and it was in a terrible state. Is that from being stuck at Morphy?
Cracking 3 days none the less.

The diseased fish are there every year and a lot of people blame the dyke but no-ones sure if it stress related due to the dyke or if its in the make-up of the North Esk springers.

Nice to hear of fish being caught on the North Esk in spite of the low water. Regarding marked or injured fish Scanny. My son had a fresh fish last month which had fresh rub marks on the top and side of it's head. These were so fresh as to still be bleeding with loose skin at the edge of the wounds still apparent. I have no doubt that these injuries were caused by the fish trying to negotiate Morphie Dykes. Perhaps the fish you encountered on the boat pool suffered the same only in this instance infection set in with terminal consequences. I feel that the fishery board should make the addressing of the Morphie Dyke issue first priority. Perhaps the dyke should be breached. As has been normal practice elsewhere when they are no longer required for the purposed they were built for. On a lighter note. Fishing the N Esk on Monday. Will let you know how things go.

Hi Tomba,
i was told that Morphy has the disease present, and with fish holding there in low water they were catching it and carrying it upstream with them. 30% of the ones i seen had patches on them, it made them easy to pick out when holding.
Its a shame, there were some cracking sized fish about with marks on them.
Even without water on monday size 15's were provoking some interest, and a rod took 3 on a Allys sz 15.
Remember and take the camera

I had a few hrs on the Burn Estate water yesterday and was breezy to say the least with a lot of this coming down I did manage to land 3 fish with the one that was diseased putting up a great scrap and I would think these fish will make it to spawn. A 6lber been in for a wee while Diseased 12lber I lost another 2 fish later on and I would think anyone out on the North Esk this week will be in with a good chance after the lift yesterday.

Out again last night for another couple of hrs, river was falling but had been up to around 3ft earlier in the day. I landed one and lost a few in around an 1hr of running fish.
