Ive been tying some 1/2" tubes for the Sea Troots and was wondering if I put a hole through them for doubling up as hitch tubes would it make a difference to how they would fish as a hitch or a normal mini tube? I dont think it would make a difference but I thought I would double check..

They will be perfect for both jobs John Agree. Reasonably 'common' to do the above here in the PNW. 'Skate' or deep ... same fly. fae

Just noticed this thread CCAC
Your mini tubes will fish ok as hitch tubes with a hole in the side of the tubing.
I have found though that this style of tube hitches better with the front of the tube closed over and only a hole on the side. It pushes a wee bit more water like this and creates a better wake.
A good otion when sealing the front of the tube is to insert a slim pice of fluorescent scandi tubing in the front, and push it in to just short f where your hitching hole will be, then burr/melt the front of the tubing over along with the main tube, to seal the front completely. This gives a nice little fluo hotspot within the fly.
Dave.

Dave, it also lets you see the flee better rather than looking for the wake , i put loon hard head varnish in the front of my hitch tubes

Aquasure does the same thing, but no need with a plastic tube, just melt the end and press with a coin or something to close it overs.

Why not just put a bit of nearly solid candle wax over the end of a Tube if you want to close the end.
Or is this too simple an idea?
