As above Lady's and Gents, do you work the flee, let it swing or do a bit of both?

Always preferred swinging until the season just passed. Back and forward with the rod did the trick a few times and certainly led to more aggressive takes and on some occasions a deeper hooked fish.

What you do depends on the situation, i.e. is Mr Fish fussy or not, and of course the conditions. I do both at some time or another. Find out what they like at that particular time and use it. You can even drag the standard fly fast across the glide and take fish

I like to mix it up a bit depending on the flow of the stream.
Don't do much at the start when the line has just touched down, though.
Slower water need a bit of fly action now and then, especially if trying to provoke a fish you have marked.

i usually handline- doesnt have to be quick....just tweaking it along or in long slow draws. it keeps you in touch with the fly and imparts movement

I have always thought movment will produce more takers, thats why after a long time spinning with raps i changed to jointed, there is a lot more movment. When i was fishing the fly on a single hand 11,3 wisker i tweaked the line or long draws back and forth with the rod. I only started with double handers last summer2009 and i done a bit of both with the full spey on. Then i was introduced to the shooting head, and to my minds eye being able to manipulate the fly's movment by hand linning, will produce more takers? And theres the benifit of the fly actually fishing longer per cast as you can hand line movment until the head is at the rod tip. BUt! lots of people get fish by just letting it swing round, i just think they would get even more by putting a bit of life in it. No sure what will become of my spey lines now ??
