I dont see much difference either. So here is the obvious questin? When does a fly stop being a fly and become a lure/spinner? I believe that once you add anything other than the materials flies are normally tied with then it ceases to be a fly. ie........lumps of plastic to turn the fly into a devon/plug or in this case, a lump of latex. So the same should be said for bits of metal for example metalic beads and coneheads of various shapes and designs? It could be sugested that 99% of the our salmon flies are lures and not poor imatations of natural insects or prey items? Where do we draw the line? I would sugest that the waggle tail is a fly tyed with novel materials, the big question is will it work? K MacC K MacC

I've seen plenty flies with imitation rubber legs, a rubber tail is just an imitation of another natural limb.
Where does it say in the Creed rules that you can't use a fly with rubber bits?

Add tungsten tubes with coneheads when you are at it.
Ohh... sorry they have some fluff attached so will be okay.

What have I missed ;D ;D ;D looks like the comp is off and running and causing a stir already. I would like to point out that the whole point of the competition is to see what new and innovative ideas our members can come up with, and builnacraigs fly certainly does that. I think to say that it's not a fly because it has a rubber body is nonsense. The rest of the fly is created using "standard" materials, and is no different to people using the pre formed larvae bodies to tie up nymph patterns or grub patterns for trout. The point of tying flies is to catch fish, we will await BNc's field testing reports with interest Dave.

saying this flies not a fly because youve added not as traditoinal materials is like saying a mepps with feathers on it is now a fly this fly just show how creative fly tying is becoming welldeone to the tyer hope it catches

Its the Matheson pool, held in the head of the pool only one ommission for me though it could do with a bit of weight at the head. Perhaps a tunston cone ;D

Here's my 1st attempt at anything like this (be kind). This fly was inspired by Ross's tyings and style. I like to think it is a cross of the Park shrimp and Mairi's shrimp I hope Ross approves. And the need for a black shrimp for my box The Macd Shrimp Dressing Tag round silver tail black fox with some Yellow Angel hair Rear body yellow lite brite no ribbing Front body Black seals fur with round silver rib Wing Black fox cheeks jungle cock Hackle black Head black
