If you seen anything untoward i.e not handling the parr in the right way, you should of kicked them off the beat, apart from that there's not much you could do apart from asking them to fish barbless hooks. I would of kicked them off anyway

dads out with kids catch perhaps 5 parr and this is probably ok, as long as the kids get the message about cherishing the fish, unhooking them and enjoying seeing them going back. If they learn about the species, the way we should look after fish and get a buzz playing the fish then the sacrifice is probably worth it , if there is one/
I am not sure i would be happy with adults trying to catch parr, nothing good can come of this, just my take!

I'm sure at one time in years gone by trout fishing was temporarily stopped during the smolt migration.

Handling etc was all fine Just think its shocking targeting parr when you should be after trout. I accept that parr are caught accidentally but targeting them is wrong IMO Targetting parr is right up there with targetting kelts.Just wrong Having said that, parr hang aboot with troot(especially in low water)and kelts hang aboot with the new boys. Its hard to avoid them at times, collateral damage does occur.Mind, grown blokes actually FISHING for them..............

what methods were they fishing martin .. mybe a note on the trout permit about careful handling and a barbless hook only rule in low water . might help but atleast theres plenty of parr there .. just shows salmon problems mainly lie in the sea

Wouldn't allow them back if it was me. Targeting parr - what next Even if they were trying to handle them safely, some will be deep hookers as they tend to take the fly/bait with gusto and these ones will be in danger of unavoidable injury. IMHO.

Deffo wrong! i saw a certain gillie known for not mincing his words literly chase a man off the water for doing it. The guy tried to say he wasent targetting them but it was clear he was, then he tried the i have a trout permit for this water, you have no say on what i do as you are employed as a gillie for salmon fishers. Which just made said gillie even more anoyed, after a few choice words and a clear explanation as to how things were going to progress from that point, he left sharpish!! We still have a good chuckle when that story is brought up
