Guys, I have read about the planned fish farm in the Hebrides in Broad Bay (Loch a’Tuath), Isle of Lewis. It was in the Trout and Salmon magazine. You can read about the local angling club who would see their rivers and lochs destroyed by this mindless commercial venture.http://www.stornoway-angling-association.com/home/index.aspx A petition against the new fish farm has been set up at nofishfarmsinbroadbay.wordpress.com/Please help the island community and angling tourism in general by signing this-its time we made our stand to support our cherished sport against the destruction of the fish stocks by sea lice infestation. Thanks

Its a shame with such a large membership so few members have supported this petition. It only takes a couple of minutes out of your day and supports the survival of the wild salmon and sea trout stocks in a truly outstanding area for visiting anglers. Just what is the criteria for members deciding this is a worthy cause? I hope its not a case of "well its not in my back yard" so why bother.

Thanks for the support Ken. I think it is important for people to realise we have a chance of stopping the farm going ahead if enough people put in a planning objection. Anyone considering doing so must remember that objections must be in by 25th March. Even submitting a comment saying you were considering a fishing holiday in the area would do....and that there will be nothing to visit for if the fish farm goes ahead. It is very important to remember that LC have admitted they do not really need the site in Broad Bay.

Hi Lax Having spent some time fishing in Harris I appreciate what a valuable resource the salmon and sea trout stocks are to the community. Allied to the fantastic hospitality from the local people who go the extra mile to ensure you have a fantastic holiday. I watched my late wife catch her first salmon on the fly at the castle river outflow on a muddler and it was a special moment that was shared by the other angling guests that night at dinner.Looking back at the catch book going back donkeys years and all the visiting dignitaries who have visited the island and supported the community I am astonished at how much environmental damage the fish farms have caused and how the stocks have collapsed. I really cannot stress enough the importance for anglers to unite to draw a line in the sand and support this campaign. If every member here that signs can persuade two others to sign, and so on then we as a fledgling forum will have done tremendous good and of course get recognition for doing the needful when called upon and credibility. Please members give us two minutes to sign this petition and ask your pals to do likewise. It would be sad if this forum doesnt rise to the challenge and support our sport in Scotland when it is needed. Ken www.thepetitionsite.com/1/no-fish-farm-in-broad-bay

I signed the petition weeks ago via a link to the petition site, i seen on another Forum. I agree with what Ken has said, and I think that all of us need to support this type of petition before they cause more enviromental damage.

I tried to sign for more than half an hour and the website kept freezing after I submitted the form. When I went back my details were not there and I had to fill out the form many times

I'v just received a "thank you email" from the organisers of this petition. They have received 570 responces and have now closed the petition.I think if it had run a bit longer the responce would have been far greater.Any way i hope it makes a difference. Skippy

Email received today A huge thank you to everyone who signed the on-line petition. We achieved 570 signatures, which sends a very powerful message to the planning authorities in the Western Isles that the local population, the communities of anglers and tourists who visit the island - and many concerned people worldwide - say no to this development. We also have a paper-based petition which has more than 500 local signatures from the area surrounding the proposed fish farm. If this were an opinion poll it would mean that more than 90% locally oppose this development. The people have spoken now lets see if the Comhairle and our elected officials are listening! If you have not submitted a personal objection to this plan on-line directly to Comhairle nan Eilean Siar - you have until 25th March 2010 to do so. Please do this! Cut and paste the link below and then enter the reference, also below. planning.cne-siar.gov.uk/PublicAccess/tdc/DcApplication/application_searchform.aspxand enter application reference: 10/00105 Please check our website for regular updates on the campaign: www.nofishfarmsinbroadbay.wordpress.com

The local council has told Lighthouse Caledonia to resubmit their planning application. The council were unhappy with certain things including containment issues. LC were already putting together a revised EIA as they realised the one produced in house was a lot of nonsense. Hopefully LC will now take the hint and drop their planning application for a salmon farm in Broad Bay.

No. C Leary (planning officer) was telling one of the local angling club reps.
