Ah the 'taxpayers funds' war cry...very touchy subject but I shall indulge.
Apart from the actual absorption of the delivery costs of the university courses,(which in Scotland is Absorbed by the state so non optional) My parents have paid for the last seven years of my under and post graduate education...which comes to roughy £42,000 give or take.
Take 90% of the people I have went through Uni with and the state pays for that, in the form of a Bursary and loan, and most are merely there for a jolly until they are found wanting academically.
So who's utilising what?
Incidentally my father paid in excess £50k in Paye taxation last year, just a little more than most people who present the "wasting public money" earn, let alone contribute via one method of taxation.
Compare this to those who attended university 20-30 years ago and I'm a dam site less expensive to the "state".
With that, I'm perfectly comfortable being educated, and take great offence to the jibes.
