If the current cold conditions continue will the lower river offer the best chance of an early fish?

If you look at the beats on fishtay they mostly manage 1 or 2 for january although Murthly 1 had 5 this year.

Since we've got two Tay gillies attention on this thread what was your take on the past season ? Did you think there was as many fish as 2008 but they were runing hard or not taking as well as before?

Martin I think the Pitlochry counter wasnt far off average so looks like the Tummel had a decent enough run. Do you know how the Ericht counter fared?

Salmonnut
What style will you be fishing on Opening Day? Fly, Spinning or either as per conditions?
Any special colours or flies you like to use at this time of the year?
I am not fishing until the 6th of February (so far)

Salmonnut
I am a contrarian as regards fishing for salmon
If everyone is fishing the same and catching nowt, it's on with something totally different or even fished differently.
Mind you, I don't see me fishing a big Green or Red Sprat on the Tay just like they used to do in days of yore. But you never know. I think you can only use more than one treble on a rig (ie at the Tail and Middle) but need this clarified by someone (like Martin) who really knows the rules.
I think it would be fun to try this again - assuming you can buy the Green and Red Sprats these days
