It's a bit worrying that you Scots, with your kilts and heritage, and strong-mindedness are still bickering and struggling to find a voice and guidance on the river that is a massive part of your lives. But you've always been a touchy lot.
Despite having had my fair share of anti-English poo from some of the Edinburgh natives, I find myself drawn to Scotland year in year out. This is mainly down to most ordinary folk being salt of the earth.
If you are complacent enough to think that you can continue to take and not give anything back, you will have nothing left to be proud about.

Don't know who told you that bollocks about the Tweed biologist, as no one looks after fish more than him.

Am not against the netting if they have a licence to shoot seals, cormorants etc, Not getting together with the folks on the river is the problem as no one knows what is going on. Bob

Tony..
Just out of interest how many Board members have to be 'for' an experiment like this in order for it to be carried??
and how many of the beats/ riparean owners are represented on the board??

Why do the board not take a breath and think about how last years and this years proposed experiment will be received.
The Dee has many critics, but the PR is handled very well and had the Tay board managed the proposed netting sensibly, then it might have been received differently.
Devise a strategy, justify the experiment, give quantitive data. Clear and credible, as long as it's delivered to stakeholders clearly then you can't ask for more.
Take the shrimp experiment last year, it may just be me but I couldn't see it's relevance strategically, couldn't find credible justification and never found any data to interrogate from the results. To an outsider it seemed a little "gung ho" and embarrassing.
I fear the same road is being tread with the netting experiment. With a little work then it could be changed.
When guys with Tay blood in them voice concerns, it's time to think about what's going on.
I wouldn't criticise without reason as the people on the board do invest time into it, however as the thread shows, the relevance of the experiment hasn't been conveyed well or at all.
A 2 page PDF may be of help?
