A word that seems to cause confusion among many. If it is not a fishery then what is it?Its revovery has been going on a lot longer than that. How long then?By the way i have not seen or heard of the big numbers of Trout being killed, there are how ever big numbers being caught but most are being returned. Tony Heres an example from last season theres many pictures similar to this kicking about the internet. I have not seen that sort of thing goin on this year, most of the anglers i have seen and spoken to release most if not all their fish.Im not getting at you for taking a couple of fish. Its the way many people treat Leven like i already said - like a put and take commercial trout fishery which its not. Put and take No! Commercial Yes!

If it is not a fishery then what is it? My point is some people do not seem to know the difference between fishery and commercial fishery. I have heard this on Loch Awe in the past. A guy i spoke to had 7 wild brownies and was taking everything he caught. When i asked him if he needed that many fish his reply was 'well its a fishery isnt it' he failed to note that Loch Awe is a Wild Fishery. The same seems to apply to Loch Leven. The recovery has been going on since the algae blooms desimated the fish stocks. I will agree that in some way the long cold winters seem to help Trout i have noticed this in my local Lochs where the fish are weirdly growing bigger and fighting harder. So bring on a nice cold winter every year ;D I have not seen that sort of thing goin on this year, most of the anglers i have seen and spoken to release most if not all their fish. The evidence is there to see too many people have a bash everything they catch mentality which spawns from commercial fisheries. Loch Leven might have boats available commercially but the Loch is not a commercial fishery. One day people will learn this no doubt some will not.

Great pictures, great fish undergillie! I remember fishing the hardys on leven, and getting humped by kinross angler paul sharp, learned a lot that day, managed to qualify for the final, and had the most fantastic fishing i`ve had on leven. Fond memories, and your report has spurred me into returning. Need to dig out the di7 and the black dugs! Thanks for sharing.
