1..greyhen and rusty 2..border greenwell 3..patrage and yellow/orange..or red all dry all on size 14"s all killing machines roll on the spring ;D ;D ;D Jamie, how do you find the trout fishing on the Tweed nowadays? Me and my mate used to take out a season ticket on the peeblesshire assoc water and saw a declining situation even tho they were stocking with near 1lb trout. do you think its picked up, over the last 4-5 years ? kf

kenny trout fishing is very poor they are stocking with pound fish with a blue ink dot on their belly ...ah tae be young again brought up fishing peebles for troot great days Many a time I had fishing around Peebles so may have bumped into you and told you to GTF oot that pool ;D Seriously the trouting on the Tweed has goton so bad this last few years that I never bother now. In fact I wrote a wee article for the Letters page slagging off the Tweed and what the Powers to be were doing (not) and it was published on May 2006 edition of the Trout and Salmon. Look it out and have a wee looky at my thoughts about the stocking policy at that time.

Borderer, you have been living in glasgow too long...... they no longer stock the peebleshire water, and thank god as it wasnt the brightest of ideas!! imo the trout fishing is very good, throughout ther whole of the association, maybe with the exception of the town and crown water, but this is to be expected as it is the most busy and accessible! if you are willing to wander ( which all good trout fishers should ) then you will find trout of high quality!

ptg you are right just checked with a friend they have stopped stocking as agreed by rtc mabye i have been in glasgow to long loosing touch :)i know there is still some good fishing i have pointed out good beats in my thread but peebles town /crown is a shadow of it"s former self i don"t fish tweed for trout now anywhere as much as i used to i far prefer paying for a good quality loch now but still love the thrill of the afternoon /evening rise when i am home in the summer i still have a few hours on tweed try to go to the more private beats that are less fished i find the water around peebles dull and empty of any quality fish only my opinion takecare jamie ;D

For Brownies in a Loch - boat fishing I always liked McLeod's Olive, a Mallard and Claret and a Black Pennell on the tail - all 10-14
For Brownies on a River, wet fly fishing, I would be inclined to stick with a Greenwell, Grouse and Claret and a small Black fly in sizes 12-16 - Assuming I only could pick three flies for each style
For Dry I would go Klinkhammer, Griffith's Gnat and a Greenwell Parachute- sizes to suit
But I am no expert with Dry Fly! Or the other styles

1, Gold head PTN (any variant will do). 2, CDC Emerger (any color will do). 3, Woolly Bugger (fish it anywhere). Three flies to cover all waters. I even fish the Woolly Bugger on my local streams and wild lochs. If you have a flexifloss CDC emerger and need a buzzer just snip off the CDC and away you go. If I had to choose just one it would be the PTN. I am inclined to agree - but would want a black fly for reserve if I lost the PTN! tweedbunnet

Large stillwater dries; black shipmans, hares ear bits and claret hopper. Large stillwater nymphs; pheasant tails, epoxy buzzers and hares ears. Large stillwater lures; white cat, orange/peach cat and jc viva. Small stillwater dries; shuttlecock emergers, cdc dries and suspender buzzers. Small stillwater nymphs; pheasant tails, epoxy buzzers and hares ears. Small stillwater lures; various fritz, damsels and montanas. These are the teams that worked for me from Loch Leven to Rutland Thats about 15 fleas too many ;D Bet your scales start weighing at 3 lbs ;D ;D ;D

Rab cats whisker try on 14 or 16 in flat calm withslf finnese dubbed body and white cdc wing fratnic style(f fly)or even on 14 16 as mni wet, varient 14 16 green body two black hen hackles as mutuka wing silver wir or finest oval rib if you dont like it the browns love it Rab now pick 3 out your list that you would only have regardless of where and what conditions, size can vary pattern colour cant, for river loch whatever I never really done much river fishing...it was all loch style drifting so i'll pick 3...1 from each catagory that was always on the cast; Lure would have to be a mini white cat. Fished on various sinkers it is equally as effective for browns as it is for rainbows. Nymph would have to be a pheasant tail. General purpose nymph that could be tied to represent just about anything that hatched. Dry would probably be a claret hopper. Again it would take fish no matter what was hatching.
