I thought I would have another Wee tying competition this month. Simple rules to follow. It can be an existing pattern or a pattern of your own design, tied on single, double, treble, tube, waddington whatever you fancy. All you need to do is post a picture (3 maximum) of your fly along with a full dressing, and most importantly a NAME . Entries can be made until Thursday 30th of September at 12. noon. Entries made after this time will not be counted but may still be charged............. oops wrong show ;D.. 1 Builnacraig "tail of the dog" 2 Cannycatchacold "MacD shrimp" 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 at the close of the competition I will open a poll which will run for 1 week. The winner of the competition, will receive a great prize of tying materials, provided by The Helmsdale Tackle company, and Foxy-tails. I look forward to seeing your Entries. Good Luck. Dave.

It will catch fish, when i was younger and had very little gear,i acquired a yellow wag tail about 2" tail and a ribbed 2" body i threaded a clip swivel through the body so the swivel was out the top and a treble onto the clip and spun it,the first time i tried it was when i had run out of worms . If my memory is correct it took 5 salmon, i have still got it in my old tackle box,it's a bit worse for ware now though . Fantastic action in the water.

It will definately catch, but I hope the tail gets bitten of by a fish taking short. Why not just fish with a leadhead? (Available from all good sea angling stores?)

Laxdale,
The waggler was in the fly tying section of the website, along with photos of waggler nymphs etc.
I seem to recall Helmsdale tackle selling tube flies with metallic vanes at the front. I see little difference between that and the addition of a little rubber tail as an extra on a fly?

I dont see much difference either.
So here is the obvious questin? When does a fly stop being a fly and become a lure/spinner?
I believe that once you add anything other than the materials flies are normally tied with then it ceases to be a fly. ie........lumps of plastic to turn the fly into a devon/plug or in this case, a lump of latex.
